Building Something Concrete in the East Kimberley

In many East Kimberley communities, there is an average of twelve people living in each house. Local job opportunities are just as limited as the housing. The Wunan Foundation and Beacon Foundation developed a project to simultaneously tackle both problems.

Communication
Material was required to communicate the opportunity of the “Something Concrete” program. Local young Aboriginal people are offered 12 month traineeships building comfortable, durable and affordable concrete housing for Aboriginal families. After the training period, the young Aboriginal people are offered employment and the opportunity to become shareholders in the new business.

Results
“The brochure makes it much easier to talk about the project and bring new partners on board,” said Paul Davis, Business Development Manager, Wunan Foundation. “People get really excited about the project when they read the brochure.”
